So in my desperate attempt to maintain at LEAST once monthly posting... I am getting this post up and online on the last possible day we could all agree is counted as February. ~Whew~
K, thanks! Bye! (signoff)
Just joshin'. I wouldn't be THAT lame. But then again, having to struggle so much to keep a monthly post up is showing signs of early onset lameness.
Blogging has become a love/hate thing with me. I love once I have hit "post" and there is the satisfaction of knowing another micro-milli-byte of the Internet's seemingly VAST storage capacity is taken up by my words. But then the other thought arises... "so what?"
This post is unraveling in my mind from having just visited a feature I never knew existed in my blogger dashboard. A stats link. It was weird to find my #1 visited post is the one about finishing "Into Thin Air". Of all the heartfelt posts I have written, and all the dim shallow fluff postings... this post has risen to the top. Really? Not sure why. I mean I LIKE it and all... but... hmmmmm?
The Internet is like a map of group consciousness... and seemingly as fleeting as the random thoughts that drift through your mind during meditation. Online you find an ever growing stream of sites, posts, tweets and status updates is being compiled. All the time. Non stop. From everywhere. Right now. And now. And now...
It is like when you sit quietly trying to meditate and then the thoughts arise. You start thinking... "is Charlie Sheen going to give an interview"... "should I go on a diet"... "did the oscars snub Corey Haim"... why does Willow Smith whip her hair back-n-forth"... "is there really a Dr. Seuss and is it his birthday"... "what is happening in Wisconson"... "who is Frank Buckles..." "who names their kid Snookie"... and on and on and "did I leave the iron on???"
The mind is a scary and random little bugger if left to its on devices. It will do anything it can to keep you from stillness and silence. ANYTHING. Don't believe me? Try to stop and sit without a thought for ONE MINUTE. Seriously. Sit and try to have a clear pure untainted moment... we will all wait. [Time Passes]. So what happened with your thoughts? Your mind? Did it whore you out? Did it make you a serial killer? Did you become a god incarnate because you ROCKED the guitar hero yesterday? I am guessing if those nice little meditative images of calm and peace started working... your brain crafted a little more shocking imagery to insert into your calming session - something risquee or horrifying or just downright annoying like the lyrics of Rhianna's newest meditation killer... to discourage your attempts. If it didn't... you did not sit long enough and you most likely did not "empty the cache" of thoughts. It is not a criticism of you, it is the reality of what the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas teach us.
Meditation is tricky, and even if not formally sitting in the practice of it... I find Google and these blog stats to be an insight both into the random topics that I have thrown out on the blank canvas of mass consciousness... and I can observe the other trending topics. This is a perfect metaphor for a calm mind (the actual "system" of the internet) and the crap we fill it up with. There is no end to the crap... and the further you are willing to go, you will find something there... icky gross and ready to be discovered.
And so I just like to come to the keyboard once a month... not knowing if you will find my words inspiring or bizarre... and dip my little toe in the ocean of thought racing across our global media at mach speed. I have nothing to offer, but I offer everything to you hoping that your life intersects with a clear method to enlightenment. There are links to one here. If you look at Tibetan Buddist Altar you can find the path! It offers a way to take daily insanity and use it totrade for your get out of jail free card.
Okay. I think that's all I got today. February blog post.... CHECK. Now on to the next item on the list. Monthly shower. Hmmmm I think I can squeeze one in today! (Kidding people. Kidding! Cause I KNOW I can fit it in today.)
And Who DID win the Oscars last night? I thought Trent Reznor was a great choice! Quickly... post among yourselves... but do it here so I can see!
