She's looking at me in this moment

Eyes that have witnessed pain and loss

Without any vocabulary to describe such events

A sigh tells me more about her plight

Than any journal or diary might ever convey

I tap on a keyboard in a quiet bedroom

That has become her refuge,

Her port after an immense storm

Hours pass and she remains at a loyal

Proximity to me

Her furroughed brow speaks concern

At Backfiring mufflers or

Unplanned eruptions of outside noise

The fur on her back stands alert

Imposed by her intuitive knowledge

That the comfort of this chair on which she

Perches

Is not unlike where she rested when

Katrina tore down the walls around her.
