Those pesky reminders that it is time to make resolutions are the things like... ~well~ writing all your checks with last year's date... or keying into Quickbooks and realizing that you are posting to the future (December of this year) instead of those entries JUST getting keyed in from last month.
All the signs of a new year are upon us. New snow on the ground, no holiday music on the airwaves (they are still airwaves aren't they? I never know with Satellite, etc.) And all the crazy ways you hear people term the year. Some say it is now the year "ten"/ some say "two thousand ten" / others say "twenty ten." There is something radical about entering our second decade of the new millennium. Oh I know it is only the start of the eleventh year (if you count '00 to '01 as the FIRST year of new mill) but the truth is that one full decade has past and the second is being formed right beyond our screen savers. I have probably already spent half this new year on Twitter! Tried to get my parents and family involved and I set them all up accounts for the holidays - even made a tutorial for them they could call into while online that would walk them through, but alas - I think they are all trying to set their VCR clocks that have been flashing *12:00* / *12:00* / *12:00* since 1983. Just kidding - my fam is pretty tech savvy. Dad did just retire from voice integrated software industry!
Anyhow, I must say putting 2009 to rest was a relief. I have talked to many who agreed it was a particularly challenging year for many. Perhaps it is that revolution of the decade cycle coming full circle. A friend on New Year's Eve was talking about the two "bookends" of the decade being the attack on 911 and then the election of Obama. Now LOTS o' STUFF obviously filled the time in between... but it is amazing to sit and contemplate how AB-solutely forever away 2010 seemed to me as a child of the 70's and now here she stands!
So anyway, I hope that 2010 involves a revolution of compassion for each of you. That term coined so eloquently on Jetsunma's album (can we call CD's albums still... I need my vocab book for Y2K2D speak.) I have laughed recently that this was the year sequeled in the sequel to Kubrick's 2001 Space Odyssey (the followup was" 2010" with Roy Scheider.) Yeah - in 1984 they thought this would be "the year we make contact. LOL guess that remains to be seen.
Alright my friends. Off to embrace the 2-0-1-0 for another day. Let's hug it out. No wait... let's hip hop it out with a kid who will probably be my age in ohhhhh... 2047. For reals. That's KrAzY!? Guessing blogging will be old school by then! #impermanence. (See mixing blogger with twitter habits now. There is no telling what the future holds!)
Peace Y'all
